In eastern Senegal, on the red dirt roads of Tambacounda, we follow Rougui, a mobile midwife who travels from village to village to provide care for women living far from healthcare facilities. Alongside her colleague Madeleine, she supports women facing early pregnancies, gender-based violence, and the consequences of female genital mutilation (FGM), a practice that remains widespread despite being illegal.

In remote communities where access to healthcare is limited, these midwives are often the only link between women and medical support. Through their work, they provide care, education, and a space for women to speak about their bodies and experiences. This project highlights their daily commitment and the essential role they play in protecting women’s health and rights in rural Senegal, while respecting the privacy and dignity of the women documented.
